Crochet Button Up Headband Pattern

Crochet Button Up Headband Pattern

One of the biggest issues I touched upon in my last headband pattern, was the utter havoc hats do to your hair, and headbands really aren't much better!

The amount of times I've spent a significant amount of time getting ready to go somewhere or meet someone, you do your makeup to perfection, spend hours getting your hair to sit right, then you go to put on that headband you wanted to wear because it matches your outfit and BOOM! all hard work out the window if you don't get it right the first time -throws teenage tantrum-.

But fear not! this handy little pattern solves the problem those pesky headbands cause!

How about a headband you can place on your head, adjust to your liking and play around with it WITHOUT wrecking your hair? sound good? how about a headband you can button up?

Using a 4.0 mm hook

Ch 4

Row 1: hdc in second ch from hook and into every ch to the end of the row, ch 1 & turn (3)

Row 2: 2 hdc in first hdc, 1 hdc in next hdc, 2 hdc in last hdc, ch 1 & turn (5)

Row 3: 2 hdc in first hdc, 1 hdc in next 3 hdc, 2 hdc in last hdc, ch 1 & turn (7)

Row 4: 2 hdc in first hdc, 1 hdc  in next 5 hdc, 2 hdc in last hdc, ch 1 & turn (9)

Row 5: 1 hdc in each hdc to the end of the row, ch 1 & turn (9)

Row 6-29 (or however many rows to fit round your head): 1 hdc in the Back Loop of each hdc to the end of the row, ch 1 & turn (9)

Row 30: 1 hdc in each hdc to the end of the row, ch 1 & turn (9)

Row 31: sc2tog, 1 hdc in next 5 hdc, sc2tog, ch 1 & turn (7)

Row 32: sc2tog, 1 hdc in next 3 hdc, sc2tog, ch 1 & turn (5)

Row 33: sl st into first hdc, ch 3, sl st into last hdc, ch 1 & turn (5)

(the ch 3 space makes the hole for the button)

Row 34: 3 hdc into the ch 3 space.

Finish off and weave in ends

Sew a big button onto the other end of the band

And you're done :)

You can easily do the button up wherever you like, for instance, for a plain headband just do it up behind your head, personally I think having the button showing is a nice little touch and can look really special if you use a lovely decorative button.

Crochet Shell Headband

Crochet Shell Headband {free crochet pattern}

As I was doing the shell edging on my little girl purse (see the post here), I thought it would make a very nice headband for a little girl. So, after many attempts and some math figuring, here’s what I came up with! It’s fairly simple, but looks so elegant and sweet. There are millions of flower patterns online, but see my post on another headband to craft my favorite flower so far.

The Pattern

Chain to the length desired, but it must be divisible by 4, then add 3 chains at the end. For example, I wanted to make one for a 6-12 month old baby, so I chained 44, then added 3 at the end, for a total of 47 chains. The example below is for a newborn.
Make sure your chains are nice and loose because you will work on the top and bottom of them.
Make a Chain for the Headband
  • In the third chain from the hook, work 3 DC in the same CH.
  • Skip a CH, and work a SL in the next CH.
  • Skip a CH, and work 4 DC in the next stitch.
  • *Skip a CH, and work a SL in the next stitch.
  • Skip a CH, and work 4 DC in the next stitch.*
  • Repeat from * to the end, making sure to end with a shell (4 DC).
  • Turn your work around, and see pictures below for continuing on the bottom. Work the first shell into the same chain (but on the bottom) of where you worked the last shell on the top.

After working the last shell on the top, turn your work around and work another shell in the same chain.

Here’s what your headband should look like once you’ve turned it, worked a shell on the end, and started to continue around.

Here’s a close up of how you work the other side of your headband on the bottom. You create a new shell from the shell below it.

The last shell and end should look like this – one shell on the top, one on the bottom. Join the last shell to the first one with a SL. Fasten off and sew in the ends, leaving a tail to sew the headband together.

 Easy Crochet Lace Headband Pattern

With spring coming up here in the UK (spring being no different to winter whatsoever), we decided to do some spring themed patterns, and to start things off we went with a nice girly lace headband.

This project is very quick to do, it can easily be finished in 10-20 minutes and looks great in a variety of colours.

Although not included in the following pictures, we added accessories to our headbands to jazz them up a bit, on one we put a crocheted daffodil, following the spring theme of course, and on another we added a crocheted bow.

(please comment below if you would be interested in a daffodil/rose/bow crochet tutorial!)

There is a large opportunity for you to get creative with this pattern :) customize it and make it your own to suit any occasion!

Chain 16
Row 1: Skip the first 3 chains, slip stitch into 4th chain - *chain 4 skip 3 chains and slip stitch into 4th chain* continue until end of row, chain 4 and turn.
At this point you should have 4 loops
Row 2: *Slip stitch into the first loop (ch 4 space) and chain 4* repeat to the end of the row, chain 4 and turn.
Row 3-62: Repeat row 2
Note: Please increase/decrease the amount of rows depending on the size of your head!
This pattern makes the headband incredibly stretchy to keep checking to make sure its the right length as you go along.

Finish off, leave a long tail.

Taking a tapestry needle, thread it on to the tail you left,

lay the two ends of the headband together and sew them together.

One lace headband :) easily done in under half an hour!

As always, Please feel free to comment and tell us how you customized your headband for spring :)
